Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and at the Penn and Teller Theater located in Las Vegas (season two onward). Following each show, when Penn & Teller cannot figure out how the trick was done, and the magician(s) who performed the trick win the Fool Us trophy and a five-star trip for a trip to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act for Penn & Teller’s show, in addition to The Rio Hotel & Casino.

Teller notes that the doublespeak helps teach people new techniques without spoiling the trick. A backstage judge who is well-versed in the tricks of the magic business and intimately aware of how the trick is done before the performance, makes any needed calls to determine if Penn & Teller were properly fooled. At the end of each program, Penn & Teller perform a magic act on their own.

The first season Jonathan Ross served as a temporary replacement for Penn and Teller’s hosting duties but they were back for the next season.
